시간과 공간을 유영하며 잉태하는 슬픔

삶도 죽음도 머무름에 기인한다. 모든 인간은 한때 어머니의 몸속에 거주하였고, 그 안에서 미비한 세포를 키워내며 성장하였다. 즉 어머니는 최초의 집인 셈이다. 그리고 우리는 얼마 간 머무르던 그 집을 떠나 바깥세상에서 시간과 공간을 유영하며 사건을 만들고 겪으며 살아간다. 언젠가 이 생이 끝나리라는 진리와도 같은 예언을 부여받은 채. 박주애의 작업들에서는 이러한 탄생과 소멸 그리고 그 사이에 펼쳐지는 지난한 생의 스펙트럼과 함께 생에 대한 진리와 예언이 펼쳐지고 있다. 그리고 그 안에는 알 수 없는 깊은 슬픔이 함께 거주하고 있다.

작가는 이번 전시의 제목을 ‘피를 데우는 시간’이라고 정했다. 생명이 유지되는 동안 우리의 심장은 뜀박질을 지속하며, 피를 데우며 흐르게 한다. 그 피의 온도가 외부 환경의 그것과 같아지는 순간은 아마도 생의 시간이 종료된 뒤일 것이다. 아마도 청춘의 시절 가운데 머무르고 있는 작가에게는 아직도 생의 에너지가 충만한 듯하다. 고로 그녀에게 ‘피를 데우는 시간’은 불안과 두려움 가운데서도 불길과도 같은 생 안에 자신을 던지는 시간일 것이고, 그림을 그리는 시간일 것이다. 그 시간이 그녀의 작품 안에 더욱 많은 고랑을 만들어내어, 그 안에서 이 세상에서 소멸한 것들을 다시금 살려내는 사건을 만들어내게 되기를 바란다.

Sorrow Conceived During the Drift of Time and Space

Life and death arises from retention. All humans at one time have lived within their mother's body and developed themselves while fostering immature cells within. In short, mothers are our first homes. And not long after that, we leave that home and continue to live on creating and experiencing various events while drifting time and space along in the outside world. At the same time, we are given the truthful prediction that someday, our life will come to an end. In Park Ju-ae’s work, these kinds of birth and disintegration as well as all the spectrums of our past lives are spread out in between along with the truth and prediction about life. And inside, a deep unknown sorrow lies entrenched.

The artist has stated that she has designated the title of this exhibition to be "A Time to Warm My Blood". As long as life continues, our hearts will continue pumping, warming the blood and make it flow. The moment the temperature of the said blood equalizes with the outside environment would be the time after life has come to an end. It appears that the artist who is at the height of her prime is still filled with life energy. As such, the 'time to warm her blood' would be a time to throw herself into the fires of life amongst all her anxieties and fears as well as the time to paint her pictures. It is my hope that all those hours of her time would create many more furrows within her work and create an event which rekindles or gives life back to all the extinct entities in this world.
